We have abandoned Nigerian youths, using them as political machinery – Lamido

Former Jigawa State Governor and PDP founding member, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has voiced concern over the exploitation of Nigerian youths as mere political tools. Speaking in Dutse, the state capital, Lamido emphasized the lack of mentorship and character development provided to the younger generation by political leaders. He lamented the abandonment of Nigerian youths, particularly in terms of inculcating values such as brotherhood, sisterhood, compassion, and empathy.

Lamido questioned why, when he was young, he was provided with essential values, while today, the future of the nation seems to be entrusted to the same youths as mere political machinery and laborers. He expressed worry that young people are increasingly being subjected to thuggery, hatred, abuse, and disrespect, instead of being engaged in constructive discussions centered around ideas and principles.

Lamido urged youths from various political parties, such as PDP, APC, and ADC, to forgo enmity and instead work collaboratively towards shared goals. He stressed the importance of each youth recognizing the common aspirations and challenges they face, irrespective of their political affiliations. The former governor called upon political leaders and stakeholders to invest in the intellectual, moral, and leadership development of Nigerian youths through education, employment opportunities, mentorship, and character formation.

He urged present leaders to provide the same guidance that previous generations received, as the country's future hinges on how effectively youths are prepared to assume leadership roles. Recognizing the diverse regions of Nigeria, Lamido called for unity among youths from the North, South, East, and West, stressing that the nation's sustainable development depends on adequately preparing its youths for leadership based on competence, integrity, tolerance, and national responsibility.
