Vikings’ defense is again well-connected and well-coached, at the direction of Brian Flores

The Minnesota Vikings have faced questions about their defense as they began the season, having cut veterans to save money and dealing with tenuous depth in key spots. However, the return of defensive coordinator Brian Flores seems to have given the team confidence. In a Week 1 win against the Carolina Panthers, the Vikings' defense recorded eight touchdowns and 552 yards, providing an encouraging start to the season.

After the game, cornerback Isaiah Rodgers said, "We just trust Brian Flores. We want to go out there and play for our coaches, understanding that the scheme is going to work."

Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell expressed confidence in the strategy Flores used to contain quarterback Caleb Williams' dual-threat abilities, noting that the defense's focus on stopping the run was a major factor in their victory. Jalen Redmond led the interior rush with four tackles, a pass deflection, and a forced fumble near the goal line. The Vikings have a relatively low percentage of their cap devoted to defense, but Flores' coaching and connections appear to have been crucial in overcoming this challenge.
