Ukraine says foreign defense suppliers owe country about $10.58 billion, including $1.7 billion already paid for goods delivered late or never at all

Ukraine's Ministry of Finance reports that foreign defense suppliers owe the country around $10.58 billion. This sum comprises approximately $1.70 billion in overdue payments or funds that have been paid to suppliers but for which the goods or services have been delivered late or not at all. The Ministry of Finance seeks to recover these funds through legal action.

However, in some instances, the statute of limitations is nearing or has already expired, potentially barring Ukraine from reclaiming the money. The legal costs associated with these proceedings could reach $403 million, risking the recovery of over $403 million in recoverable funds. The Ministry of Finance warns that a lack of funding to pursue these legal cases could deprive Ukraine of significant revenues, potentially force it to end contracts with foreign legal counsel, delay the appointment of new advisers, and impact its ability to secure future financing.
