Typhoon Dujuan forces India to miss training ahead of Japan T20I; Shreyas Iyer says ‘don’t know conditions’

Heavy rain and stormy conditions due to Typhoon Dujuan forced India's cricket team to forgo training on the eve of their historic T20I against Japan. The powerful typhoon was approaching eastern Japan, bringing torrential rain, strong winds, and a heightened risk of landslides in the Kanto region, home to Tokyo and surrounding areas.

The Japan Meteorological Agency warned that conditions might worsen rapidly as the storm neared the region. The India squad, based in Japan ahead of the Tuesday match at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Tochigi Prefecture, marked the first meeting between India and Japan in men's international cricket. The event, part of celebrations for 75 years of India-Japan diplomatic relations, saw the Japan match as a significant milestone for the hosts.

The weather disruption affected the ongoing Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, prompting the postponement of an equestrian eventing competition. For India, the loss of the eve-of-match training session meant the players would enter the first-ever international encounter with Japan without familiarizing themselves with local conditions.

Captain Shreyas Iyer described his experience in Japan as "beautiful" and praised the hospitality received by the team. Despite the unfamiliarity surrounding the contest, Iyer expressed excitement for the match, acknowledging it as thrilling and exciting, even though his team did not know much about the conditions or the wicket.
