Trump’s approval rating falls to career low of 32% as high living costs bite, poll shows

Donald Trump's approval rating has plummeted to a career low of 32 percent, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll. The decline in support comes as Republicans become increasingly dissatisfied with his handling of the cost of living during the unpopular Iran war. While 73 percent of Republicans approved of Trump's job performance in the latest poll, a significant drop from 82 percent in a poll conducted a week earlier, his overall approval rating stands at 35 percent.

In contrast, Trump enjoyed a 47 percent approval rate just hours after taking office in January 2025, promising to curb inflation and end foreign wars.

The cost of living has emerged as the top issue Americans consider when deciding how they will vote in the upcoming November 3 midterm elections, which could potentially impact Trump's Republican party's narrow congressional majorities. In the poll, only 17 percent of respondents approved of Trump's handling of the cost of living, highlighting growing dissatisfaction among Republicans on this matter.

For the first time, Republicans who disapprove of Trump's handling of the cost of living outnumber those who support him, with 51 percent disapproving compared to 44 percent approving.

This new poll, conducted online, gathered 1,277 responses from US adults nationwide and had a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
