These are the first five Googlebook laptops

Google has unveiled a new line of laptops called Googlebooks, designed to provide Android users with a seamless bridge between mobile and desktop experiences. These devices, available from five manufacturers including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, start at $899 and come with a year's subscription to Google AI Pro, offering 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini Advanced tools.

Each laptop features a premium build with materials like aluminum and carbon fiber, a responsive touchscreen, a large trackpad, and a backlit keyboard. Battery life ranges from 14 hours to 16 hours.

The Asus Googlebook 14 weighs just 2.2 pounds and boasts an anti-glare screen, while Acer offers a convertible model. Lenovo's Googlebook 15 features a soft-touch finish in Pantone's Cloud Dancer. Pre-orders for these devices are now open on the Google Store, Best Buy, and other select retailers, with devices arriving in the U.S. on October 4 and in Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5.

Googlebooks aim to make the transition between tasks on phones and laptops easier. For example, the Continue On feature allows users to pick up tasks right where they left off from the desktop taskbar. The updated Files app enables quick access to phone photos and downloads on the laptop. Setting up a Googlebook is straightforward, as signing in automatically transfers phone settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks, and messages over with end-to-end encryption.

Additional features include Magic Pointer, which brings Gemini to content on the screen, Rambler, an upgraded speech-to-text tool, and Create My Widget, which generates custom interactive desktop widgets based on plain language descriptions. Quick Insert Key and the Glowbar are also notable features. Google is optimizing Android apps for desktop use, offering full desktop Chrome, native creative applications, streaming apps with offline capabilities, mobile games, and a bundled 1-year GeForce Now subscription for AAA PC games.

Power users will appreciate the Level 5 security-certified pKVM hypervisor and Antigravity, Google's agent development platform.
