Telespazio se refuerza en España para ganar contratos en Europa

Telespazio, a satellite services joint venture between Italian company Leonardo and French company Thales, is expanding its presence in Spain to secure more contracts across Europe. The company's Spanish subsidiary, Telespazio Ibérica, has acquired engineering services previously held by its UK-based subsidiary. This internal rationalization aims to bolster Telespazio Ibérica's structure and capabilities, enabling it to compete for new European space projects, particularly from the European Space Agency (ESA).

The acquisition, which brings the company's pipeline of orders to around 100 million euros by 2026 - double the 2025 figure, is expected to have an impact this fiscal year, with the majority occurring in the next. By integrating the acquired company, now named Telespazio Ibérica Engineering Services, into Telespazio Ibérica, 50 employees will join the Spanish subsidiary, with most of their work centered around the ESA's European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) in Villanueva de la Cañada, Madrid.

The move is timely as Telespazio Ibérica participates in the ESA's framework contract process for the services delivered at ESAC. In addition to ESA projects, Telespazio Ibérica is involved in European programs like Galileo and Egnos, the satellite navigation and positioning systems developed by the European Union. According to Telespazio Ibérica's CEO Carlos Fernández de la Peña, the company anticipates closing the current fiscal year with a pipeline close to 100 million euros, a 50% increase in revenue. Since late 2022, the company's income has multiplied by five.
