Sybiha: We to discuss humanitarian situation in Oleshky, Kherson region, at UN General Assembly; world must put pressure on Russia

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha intends to address the dire humanitarian crisis in Oleshky, located in the Russian-occupied portion of Kherson region, during the UN General Assembly assembly in New York. Sybiha disclosed this intention upon his arrival in New York for the UN conference. The city of Oleshky has been entirely cut off from the outside world for over half a year.

The population of Oleshky now stands at more than 6,000 individuals, with close to 200 of them being children. The ongoing suffering is exacerbated by rampant starvation and exposure to the elements. The occupying forces have consistently blocked all attempts to deliver much-needed humanitarian aid. Sybiha and his team have been engaged in negotiations for an evacuation, drafting lists, and coordinating a ceasefire.

However, their efforts have been met with a deafening silence from Russia. At the UN, Sybiha plans to discuss Oleshky at the highest level and advocate for global intervention. He emphasized that the world must put pressure on Russia to grant humanitarian access.
