‘So what, now what?’: Monken wants to see what Browns, Watson are made of after improbable win

Deshaun Watson's first regular-season win as a Browns starter came after a 23-19 victory over the Buccaneers in a rain-delayed game on Sunday. Although Watson had his struggles, passing for 238 yards, two touchdowns and no turnovers, his performance was bolstered by his receivers, who generated 163 yards after the catch. Rookie wideout Denzel Boston had a standout game, catching a 55-yard touchdown and contributing 42 yards after the catch.

Quarterback Watson's completion rate of 76.9% was third in the league, but his yards per attempt of 6.7 was the eighth-lowest. Coach Todd Monken acknowledged that Watson needs to improve his reads and comfort in the pocket, as he missed nearly two years of action. Monken emphasized that there is still "a lot of football left in him" and expressed eagerness to see Watson continue to develop.

Rookie Conception and Boston were the standout performers, while the run game and offensive right tackle Tytus Howard were areas needing improvement. The Browns now face the Carolina Panthers in their home opener.
