Six held for molesting woman doctor in Kolkata mall

A doctor was allegedly sexually harassed and her group was assaulted at a cinema hall in Kolkata, according to a complaint made by the woman. Police have since arrested six individuals in connection with the incident.

The alleged perpetrators reportedly subjected the group to obscene and sexually suggestive comments and actions throughout the movie. When the woman and her companions protested, the accused allegedly responded with physical attacks. Theatre staff intervened promptly, alerting the police who arrived at the scene immediately.

Conflicting behavior from the accused was noted as officers attempted to speak with them inside the cinema hall. The men allegedly argued, misbehaved, and used abusive language with the police while also behaving rudely towards other moviegoers. The police subsequently brought all six men to the station for questioning.

During interrogation, one accused, Srijan Darbar, claimed to be a student at Jadavpur University and threatened severe consequences if he were arrested. The police filed charges against the six under various offenses including wrongful restraint, causing physical hurt, using words or gestures to insult a woman's modesty, and using criminal force with intent to outrage her modesty. The six accused were taken into police custody and presented in court.
