Singer-composer retracts remarks on prison experience, apologises

Singer-composer Yasin Sulaiman has retracted his statements about his experiences in prison and apologized to the prisons department for any confusion caused by his remarks. Yasin claimed that a hierarchy existed among inmates, including groups referred to as "boss" and "taiko," and also alleged that drugs could be smuggled into the jail if a person had money and influence.

The prisons department denied these claims, stating that they have standard operating procedures in place to handle misconduct and negative incidents among inmates. The focus of the prison system is on rehabilitation programs and addressing negative occurrences, according to Rosidek Musa, senior director of prison policy. Yasin clarified that his account of prison life was based on his personal experiences and understanding during that period, noting that he was experiencing episodes of bipolar mania at the time, which may have influenced his perception and interpretation of events.
