Seongbuk District hosts Latin American Festival

The 13th Latin American Festival took place on Saturday at the Baram Madang plaza area of Seongbuk District Office in northeastern Seoul. Embassies from 15 Central and South American countries participated in the event, which is organized by the Seongbuk District Office every year since 2011. Visitors had the opportunity to experience various aspects of Latin American culture through 22 booths offering sales and hands-on activities.

These included traditional foods like arepas, empanadas, tacos, and pupusas, as well as local specialties. Visitors could also explore traditional hats, musical instruments, accessories, and other cultural items from the participating countries.

The festival featured a diverse range of cultural performances, showcasing traditional dances from Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, El Salvador, Peru, and Colombia. These performances provided a vibrant display of Latin American dance styles such as Jalisco dance, tango, traditional and popular music, Salvadoran dance, Peruvian Latin music, and Colombian dance.

Angie Shakira Martinez Tejera, the ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Korea, emphasized that the event served as a platform to introduce different facets of her country to the people of Seoul. The Dominican Republic embassy brought their country's music, dance, cuisine, crafts, and baseball culture to the festival, contributing to the rich tapestry of Latin American experiences available to attendees during this 13th edition of the Latin American Festival in Seoul.
