Schalke defender frustrated by lack of contract talks

Schalke defender Hasan Kurucay is expressing frustration over the lack of contract talks, as his current deal expires next summer. The centre-back recently commented on the situation to Bild, following Schalke 04's 0-0 draw with Elversberg where he was one of the standout performers. Despite not hearing from the club about an extension, Kurucay remains optimistic, stating that he knows he will not be without a club once his contract ends.

He acknowledged feeling a little disappointed when comparing himself to teammates who have received new contracts for their performances. However, Kurucay emphasized his focus on the upcoming games and the team's goal of avoiding relegation. When asked about the situation, Schalke sporting managing director Frank Baumann praised Kurucay's consistent performances over the past year and expressed that the club is content with his development.

Baumann admitted that the initial focus on other priorities affected the timing of contract extensions, but assured that the club is relaxed about the situation and intends to speak with Kurucay and his agent at an appropriate time. Kurucay joined Schalke on a free transfer from Belgian club OH Leuven in the summer of 2025 and has started all five of the team's games this season.
