Queiroz outlines long-term plan to rebuild Black Stars for 2030 World Cup

Carlos Queiroz, the Portuguese coach of the Ghana national football team, has shared a long-term vision for the Black Stars, aiming to have a capable squad for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Following his return for a second spell, Queiroz emphasized that the rebuilding process should commence with the ongoing 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

He stated, "Step by step, we have to plant the seeds of rebuilding or, in another word, build a strong team, a capable team that will be able to qualify and compete in the World Cup 2030."

The 2027 AFCON qualifiers will serve as the foundation for this rebuilding phase, with the coach seeking to establish a core of players who can form the backbone of the national team in the coming years. However, Queiroz's plans have been impacted by injuries and withdrawals. Several key players, including Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Partey, and Nathaniel Adjei, have been sidelined due to various reasons, such as recovery from injuries or not being called up due to hamstring issues.

Despite these challenges, Queiroz remains optimistic. He believes that the current period presents an opportunity to build a squad with the depth and quality necessary to compete not only in the immediate AFCON campaign but also beyond, ultimately leading Ghana to the 2030 World Cup.
