Pro-Israel think tank urges Israel to weaponise US interdependence amid falling support

A pro-Israel think tank has called on Israel to "weaponise" its interdependence with the United States in an effort to shield itself from potential sanctions, as public support for the Jewish state continues to wane in Washington. The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), founded in 2001 with the stated aim of enhancing Israel's image in North America, now urges the nation to bind its military, technological, intelligence, and economic systems more closely with those of the US in order to mitigate the impact of falling American backing.

Mark Dubowitz, the leader of FDD, contends that the US has already constructed a powerful financial warfare apparatus to combat Iran, and that similar technologies could now be harnessed against Israel. He warns that as public opinion shifts against Israel, the country's political protection in Washington is eroding, and that financial institutions could face significant repercussions for sanctioning Israel.

Dubowitz stresses that the US should work with Israel to create a tight, interdependent system, so that any attempt to financially target Israel would also penalize the United States.
