‘Possibly the most effective transport minister’: Lim Guan Eng praises Loke’s RM21b infrastructure legacy in Penang

Penang's Transport Minister Anthony Loke, set to leave the federal Cabinet, has secured more than RM21 billion in critical transport infrastructure for the state, according to DAP Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng. In a press release, Lim praised Loke, crediting him as "possibly the most effective transport minister" for Penang, surpassing previous MCA transport ministers.

Lim highlighted Loke's contributions, including the RM16.8 billion Penang Light Rail Transit project, the RM1.55 billion expansion of Penang International Airport, RM30 million in upgrades for KTM stations, RM2.2 billion for Penang Port, and RM500 million for Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal. The former Penang Chief Minister emphasized the profound appreciation of Penang's 1.8 million residents for Loke's willingness to sacrifice his executive post and their gratitude for his transformative impact on the state's transport network.

Loke's resignation reflects DAP's stance on the RM52 billion 1MDB scandal, with the party demanding justice for those responsible, viewing Loke's move as a "polite disagreement" with the conditional royal pardon granted to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. Loke, who remains DAP secretary-general and Seremban MP, announced his departure after a CEC meeting, while retaining his parliamentary seat and party leadership.

Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister, stated he hadn't received a formal resignation and planned to meet Loke before making a final decision.
