Police, Prisons Dept assess Najib’s residence ahead of possible house arrest, but say location not yet finalised

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — In a coordinated effort, the Police and the Prisons Department met at Datuk Seri Najib Razak's residence to evaluate the security implications of his impending house arrest. ACP Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam, the Sentul district police chief, confirmed that the assessment focused on the security surrounding Najib's home, while the Prisons Department addressed the specifics of his detention.

However, the police chief emphasized that the exact location for Najib's house arrest has yet to be determined, as the authorities are awaiting the official order document. Anuar Bakri explained that the police were responsible for examining security measures outside the residential area, while the Prisons Department managed the arrangements for his detention.

The former prime minister is currently serving his sentence at Kajang Prison after being convicted of misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd. His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon on last Friday, allowing him to complete his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, provided he pays a RM50 million fine.
