Oti Peace Council sensitises Assembly Members in Jasikan, Kadjebi on conflict prevention

The Oti Regional Peace Council recently held meetings in Jasikan Municipality and Kadjebi District to educate Assembly Members on conflict prevention and peacebuilding. These sessions, held on September 17 and 18, 2026, aimed to enhance community-level mechanisms for addressing potential conflicts before they escalated.

Reverend David Darkon Awuda, a member of the Oti Regional Peace Council, emphasized the importance of vigilance and timely sharing of information among Assembly Members. He encouraged them to collaborate with traditional authorities, religious leaders, youth and women's groups, security agencies, and other stakeholders to maintain peace and stability in their communities. Awuda stressed the role of Assembly Members in identifying early signs of conflict and supporting dialogue and lawful processes to resolve disputes.

Paul Akonor, the Regional Secretary of the Oti Regional Peace Council, facilitated these engagements and highlighted potential threats to peace and security, particularly those arising from the areas' proximity to Ghana's border with Togo. He stressed the importance of vigilance, information sharing, and coordinated community-level responses to emerging issues that could threaten peaceful coexistence.

At the Kadjebi engagement, District Chief Executive Dr Sam Issaka Suraj urged Assembly Members to act as ambassadors of peace in their electoral areas. He emphasized that Assembly Members, often the first points of contact in resolving disagreements, played a crucial role in preventing conflicts from escalating. Dr Suraj encouraged them to promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and social cohesion in alignment with the National Peace Council's objectives.

Jasikan's Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Parke-Davis Magyigbe, urged Assembly Members to work closely with one another and serve as effective agents of peace in their communities. He advised them to be proactive and cautious when handling sensitive issues that could generate tension. Magyigbe assured the Peace Council of the Assembly's commitment to strengthening collaboration among local authorities and stakeholders to promote peace and stability in Jasikan Municipality.
