NUTP wants MoE to set up special committee on teachers' workload

The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) is urging the Education Ministry (MoE) to establish a special committee to review the workload of teachers. NUTP President Aminuddin Awang emphasized the importance of the committee in assessing the real challenges faced by educators, especially those in rural and remote areas. The committee should operate on the ground and produce accurate findings through field surveys, he said.

Awang pointed out that while the MoE has taken steps over the past two to three years to reduce teachers' workload, the impact has been limited and has not met the expectations of educators. He also raised concerns over teachers being required to sign the Student Protection Policy compliance declaration, despite the Director-General of Education clarifying verbally that it is not compulsory.

NUTP is requesting the ministry to officially confirm the voluntary nature of the declaration by issuing a written statement or amending Education Service Circular No. 4 of 2026.
