NSCDC nabs 35-year-old man for vandalising water station cables in Jigawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), based in Jigawa State, has apprehended a 35-year-old individual named Rayyanu Ibrahim in relation to the alleged theft and damage of armored cables at the Birnin-Kudu Township Water Station. The occurrence was reported around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, following reports of unknown individuals vandalizing the facility and tampering with its electrical systems.

In a press release, the NSCDC's spokesperson, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, explained that the Divisional Officer of the Birnin-Kudu Division, CSC A. S. Adam, promptly assembled a team of investigators upon receiving credible information from the Birnin-Kudu Peace and Security Group. This team apprehended Ibrahim at approximately 11:00 a.m. on the same day.

Upon arrest, the suspect was found in possession of an armored cable, believed to have been removed from the targeted facility. The cable has been secured as evidence. Early inquiries revealed that the suspect admitted to his participation in the incident and also mentioned involvement in other instances of cable theft and vandalism across the Birnin-Kudu area.

He further stated that the stolen cables were being sold to scrap dealers. The NSCDC has subsequently broadened its investigation to identify and apprehend any additional individuals implicated in these alleged criminal actions, as well as determine the complete scope of the damage and losses sustained. Commandant of the Jigawa State Command, CC Muhammad Kabiru Ingawa, emphasized the Corps' commitment to protecting vital national assets and infrastructure, especially public utilities whose destruction or disruption directly affects citizens' lives and well-being.

He also encouraged citizens to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activities near critical infrastructure and government facilities to the NSCDC or other pertinent security entities. The suspect remains in custody as the ongoing investigation progresses, with further actions to be determined in compliance with applicable laws.
