Northern Forge Studios and Runaway Play lead Green Games Jam Awards 2026

The 2026 Green Games Jam Awards, organized by Playing for the Planet, took place at BFI Southbank last week, honoring game developers for their efforts in sustainable game development and environmental storytelling. A total of eleven awards were handed out, with Northern Forge Studios and Runaway Play each receiving two accolades each.

Northern Forge Studios was recognized as the Best Small Studio and received the UNEP's Choice award for their game Orna: The GPS RPG. Runaway Play, on the other hand, received the Best Storytelling award for Flutter: Butterfly Sanctuary and Google's Choice for Splash – Fish Aquarium. CD Projekt Red was honored with the Changemaker award, while Maria Sayans of Ustwo Games was awarded the Champion accolade.

Additionally, Rovio Entertainment was commended for Best Fundraising with their games Angry Birds Friends and Angry Birds Dream Blast.

Playing for the Planet's head of operations, Lisa Pak, expressed delight at the response from players to this year's reef and rainforest content, and expressed anticipation for continuing discussions about resilience with millions of players worldwide during the 8th edition of the Green Game Jam scheduled for 2027. The Playing for the Planet Awards marked the conclusion of the Green Games Summit, which featured presentations and panel discussions by industry leaders such as Hasbro, Supercell, Ustwo Games, Playstack, and others.
