New 150,000 cbm ULEC project targets larger-scale ethane transportation with GTT’s latest cargo containment system

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, GTT, and Lloyd's Register have joined forces in a new project to develop a massive 150,000 cubic meter ultra-large ethane carrier. The collaboration will see the partners leverage HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' shipbuilding expertise, GTT's innovative cargo containment system, and Lloyd's Register's classification and technical assessment capabilities.

The joint development project (JDP) aims to explore the feasibility of constructing a vessel capable of transporting significantly more ethane while maintaining stringent safety and efficiency standards. As the demand for ethane transportation grows, the industry is increasingly focused on developing larger and more efficient vessels.

Through the JDP, the partners will delve into the technical aspects of scaling up ethane carrier capacity, including vessel design, cargo containment integration, and compliance with classification rules. The project's success would mark a significant step forward in the development of ultra-large ethane carriers, offering greater cargo capacity and improved operational efficiency for the industry.
