Naqvi meets Iranian counterpart, president; Tehran lauds Pakistan's efforts for regional peace

Tehran expressed gratitude on Monday for Pakistan's efforts to promote regional peace and stability, as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni and subsequently with President Masoud Pezeshkian. During the talks, the Iranian minister commended Pakistan's Chief of Defence Forces, Chief of the Army Staff, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their contributions towards enhancing peace in the region.

Momeni acknowledged Pakistan's continuous efforts in establishing regional peace, stating that the visit from Pakistan was "beneficial". The ministers also discussed the progress of cooperation between their interior ministries in various sectors. Naqvi indicated that bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran would strengthen in the coming days.

This visit of Naqvi to Tehran is taking place amid Pakistan's ongoing diplomatic endeavors to revive the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the United States and Iran in July, which aimed to end the conflict triggered by US-Israeli attacks on Iran in late February. While Pakistan has been instrumental in facilitating talks and an interim ceasefire in the conflict, the foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei from Iran claimed on Saturday that Naqvi's visit would focus on bilateral relations without any specific plans for mediation.

In July, Naqvi had previously met with Momeni during his official visit to Pakistan, where they reviewed bilateral relations, trade, regional developments, and potential avenues for cooperation.
