357,474 voters from Negeri Sembilan should be aware that their actions are being observed and scrutinized. On August 7th, nine Nationalist, Perikatan Nasional, and Wawasan MPs who won 25 seats in the PRN Negeri Sembilan ceremony their oath of office as members of the State Legislative Council at Istana Besar Seri Menanti using the Quran.

All but one, a Chinese Malaysian and an MCA MP (not DAP), swore allegiance to Allah. With the exception of one, they confirmed their commitment to upholding the monarchy and customary institutions in the state. However, on September 17th, the exco members, including Linggi Mohd Faizal Ramli, Mustapha Nagoor; and eight fresh exco - Chembong Zaifulbahri Idris, Siow Kong Choon (Chennah), Siti Nur Umaira Hasim (Labu), Mohd Asna Amin (Lenggeng), Mohd Razi Mohd Ali (Sungai Lui), Suhaimizan Bizar (Gemencheh), Mohd Fairuz Mohd Isa (Serting) and Razali Abu Samah (Sikamat) - all reversed their oaths and chose to impeach the Yang Di Pertuan Besar.

Everyone, including the Chief Minister Ismail Lasim, confirmed the proclamation of the reduction of Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir's throne as the Yang Di Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan and agreed to the election of Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja afar as his replacement, dated April 19th, 2026. Clearly, disregard the prestige that occurred.

They swore an oath before Tuanku Muhriz, and they were bold enough to undermine customs and 'suffocate' the monarch who invested them. The act of impeachment of nine Nationalist, Perikatan Nasional, and Wawasan MPs in Negeri Sembilan is extreme and unprecedented. Nine voters from Negeri Sembilan who desired Umno on August 1st when PRN damaged the stability and prosperity of their state should be perplexed.

What should be ridiculed and ridiculed now is the Nationalist, Perikatan Nasional, and Wawasan members in Negeri Sembilan. This is because, in a book titled Adat The Legacy of Minangkabau (2015) written by the perpetrator's own group, Rais Yatim wrote: "Umno, the backbone of political parties in Negeri Sembilan and elsewhere in the Federation, does not take any initiative to promote or protect customary practices despite the promotion of culture being part of the party's political struggle apart from promoting Bahasa Melayu as the national language; neither do other Malay-based political entities do any meaningful promotion of adat - PAS (Parti Islam Se-Malaysia)...

The fact is, since 2015, Rais Yatim, the 'customary knowledge representative' himself knew that Umno and PAS could not be expected. What happened all along is the elevation of adat to a political agenda. Even the true motives behind what the group of troublemakers did are unknown. Their objectives may be far more ambitious and dangerous than what we anticipate.

Nine voters from Negeri Sembilan who chose Nationalist, Perikatan Nasional, and Wawasan in Negeri Sembilan on August 1st have made a serious mockery of their own customs and way of life, Adat Perpatih, a way of life that harmonizes with Shariah. They know what will happen but choose to diminish it. RJ Wilkinson, who cited and documented customary practices in 'Seri Menanti' in 1938, mentions that the Yamtuan has the status of a just king and the power to veto any conflict regarding religious and customary matters.

This position was less significant in Negeri Sembilan than elsewhere, owing to the fact that the chiefs and people relied on adat for their power and liberties and would not tolerate any appeals to higher courts. Similarly, the Yamtuan was the final court of justice in customary law cases."
