MediaTek unveils the Dimensity CX C10 Max, a 3nm TSMC N3 flagship SoC launching alongside Google's new Googlebook lineup, with an 8-core CPU and 11-core GPU (Jake Roach/Tom's Hardware)

Google is set to launch "Googlebooks," a new line of flagship laptops, featuring MediaTek's Dimensity CX C10 Max processor. This is the first chip in the Dimensity CX series to be released, built on a 3nm node from TSMC N3. The C10 Max boasts eight performance-core CPU cores and eleven GPU cores, alongside MediaTek's NPU 890, delivering up to 55 TOPS of AI performance. It is positioned between MediaTek's other offerings, with the RTX Spark in higher-end laptops and Chromebooks equipped with Kompanio chips.

The C10 Max is touted as the "flagship" of the lineup, although MediaTek has not disclosed full specifications or given names to the other chips in the series. The CPU is described as an "all big core" unit, utilizing three core types: one Cortex-X925, three Cortex-X4, and four Cortex-A720. These are similar to those used in MediaTek's mobile chips, such as the Dimensity 9400, 9400+, and 9500.

The C10 Max also retains the same GPU (Arm Immortalis-G925 MC11) and NPU (MediaTek NPU 890) as its predecessor, the Kompanio Ultra 910.

The main difference between the C10 Max and the Kompanio Ultra 910 lies in memory speed, with the C10 Max supporting LPDDR5X at 9,600MT/s compared to the Ultra 910's 8,533MT/s. Regarding performance, MediaTek claims a 15% increase in multi-threaded performance and 50% lower power usage in single-threaded tasks. However, the comparison with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite X1E-84-100 is not entirely accurate, as different test platforms were used, and MediaTek did not provide concrete numbers.

MediaTek's VP of computing platforms, PD Rajput, clarified that the C10 Max is designed to compete with the X1E rather than Qualcomm's newer X2 series.

The company did not share any performance comparisons with AMD or Intel x86 CPUs and refrained from mentioning whether the Dimensity CX C10 Max would extend to Chromebook or Chromebook Plus devices. MediaTek has confirmed that the C10 Max will be exclusively used in Googlebooks, stating that the company is "elevating our compute portfolio" with this new processor.
