Medellin Ranks Among the World’s Best Cities for Nightlife, According to Time Out

In 2026, the Colombian city of Medellin has been recognized as one of the world's best cities for nightlife, ranking sixth on a list compiled by international magazine Time Out. Medellin's appeal lies in its vibrant reggaeton culture, numerous nightclubs, and a diverse array of after-dark activities such as bars, clubs, music, and food.

Time Out surveyed over 24,000 residents to gather data on nightlife in their cities. The city outperformed Johannesburg, Brighton, Beijing, and Amsterdam, while being preceded by Bangkok, Berlin, New York, and Melbourne. The ranking considered factors like nightlife quality, socialization opportunities, diversity, atmosphere, and affordability.

Medellin's nightlife scene is heavily influenced by reggaeton, featuring key artists such as Karol G, J Balvin, and Maluma. Local venues like Dulcinea, Tutaina, Medallo Club, and Medussa cater to this musical genre, alongside electronic music, dancehall, and smaller bars. Emerging venues like Mad Radio and 55 dB Listening Bar focus on the listening experience.

Notable nightlife districts include Laureles and El Poblado, with Provenza emerging as a popular destination in recent years. In addition to these urban hotspots, Medellin's nightlife extends to quieter venues such as listening bars and speakeasies, which have grown in number over the past few years. Notable establishments include Dulcinea, Tutaina, Medallo Club, and Medussa.

The city's nightlife experience is generally well-received, with 87% of surveyed residents rating its quality as "good" or "incredible." Medellin also ranks second in affordability for a night out among the cities included in the ranking. The publication highlights Medellin's diverse nightlife offerings, from upscale establishments to venues centered on local music and culture.
