MDAs’ foreign trips gulp N50bn

Federal ministries, departments, and agencies in Nigeria spent a minimum of N50.41 billion on foreign travel between June 2023 and June 19, 2026. This expenditure involved 1,967 transactions across 129 institutions and agencies, as recorded in the GovSpend public expenditure tracking platform. The analysis of 8,304 unique payments, excluding duplicates and smaller transactions, revealed that air tickets accounted for 47% of the total spending, at N23.70 billion.

Estacode and offshore allowances followed with N17.05 billion, representing 33.8% of the total. The largest spender among the ministries, departments, and agencies was the Technical Aid Corps, with N11.70 billion in foreign travel-related expenses. Other major spenders included the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, State House Headquarters, and the Federal Ministry of Sports Development.
