Malaysia condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has vociferously denounced the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, including those aimed at civilians and civilian infrastructure, while reaffirming its allegiance to the Kingdom. The Foreign Ministry stated that Malaysia stands in support of Saudi Arabia's endeavors to preserve its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the welfare of its populace, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law.

The ministry also expressed its backing for all initiatives aimed at de-escalation and an immediate cessation of hostilities. This statement came after a surge in regional tensions, with Saudi authorities confirming the interception and destruction of a ballistic missile fired towards Riyadh on September 19. The Houthis had also attempted to target civilians and civilian facilities in Baish, Taif, Farasan, and Yanbu, but their attacks were thwarted.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, Houthi missile and drone strikes on Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Taif on September 14 injured 13 civilians and caused damage to several residences and vehicles, as reported by the Saudi-led coalition. The Foreign Ministry reiterated the significance of Malaysia's long-standing alliance with Saudi Arabia and its unwavering dedication to further fortifying these ties for the mutual advantage of both nations.
