Logistik: Amazon erwirbt Aktienoptionen von Kühne+Nagel

Amazon acquired stock options from Kühne+Nagel, making it their largest customer. The Swiss logistics group generates a yearly revenue of a high six-figure million from the US corporation. This partnership is expected to grow significantly, with Amazon and Kühne+Nagel agreeing on a long-term collaboration. The Swiss company will support Amazon with air and sea freight during the construction of data centers.

The potential deal value is estimated to be in the range of several billion euros per year. Concurrently, Amazon acquires stock options for shares in the partner, allowing the US corporation to fulfill the option through cash or stock purchase. The extent of Amazon's purchase depends on the commercial development of the collaboration, but it will never exceed the first reporting threshold for Swiss investors, which is three percent.

Stefan Paul, CEO of Kühne+Nagel International AG, stated that the company is well-positioned with its global network, digital capabilities, and supply chain expertise to support Amazon's changing business requirements and growth plans. This partnership is similar to one Amazon recently established with Qualcomm, where the focus is on obtaining crucial components for the data centers.

Amazon has also acquired stock options for Qualcomm shares worth up to four billion dollars, indicating a competitive race among major cloud providers for AI applications requiring significant computing power. The focus is on equipping data centers, such as server racks, which need to be transported quickly and are very sensitive to shocks.

This underscores the importance of air freight, a business in which Kühne+Nagel has long-term charter agreements with airlines like Atlas Air. In addition, the servers in data centers need regular replacement, requiring storage capacities from providers like Amazon. This is another reason why Kühne+Nagel will take care of it in the future.

Kühne+Nagel belongs to the empire of the recently deceased entrepreneur Klaus-Michael Kühne, who built the company into one of the world's largest shipping companies in the sea and air sectors. The parent holding company, Kühne Holding, also owns 20 percent of Deutsche Lufthansa AG through Kühne Aviation GmbH.
