The Lagos State Government has refuted claims that Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, only has one functional dialysis machine. According to Professor Akin Abayomi, the state's Commissioner for Health, the hospital's Dialysis Centre actually has eight working machines. Six of these are used for general dialysis patients, while the other two are set aside for patients with HIV or hepatitis.
This arrangement follows infection prevention and control guidelines, Abayomi explained. Dialysis treatment at the facility runs from 6am to midnight, with the number of sessions reaching 200 per month. A standby generator ensures continuous power supply. The commissioner also noted that residents can access dialysis services at other government-owned healthcare facilities in Lagos, including LASUTH, General Hospital Lagos, General Hospital Gbagada, Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, and the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta.
