'Kya Hua Tera Vada?': Congress Targets Modi Govt As Food Prices Pinch Household Budgets

The Congress party has criticized the Narendra Modi government over rising food prices, referencing the Bollywood song "Kya Hua Tera Vada" to question Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on inflation. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted a media report stating that sharp increases in food item prices, including pulses and cooking oil, have disrupted household budgets.

He argued that the rising prices were causing severe financial pressure on the middle class and poor. Ramesh claimed prices of essential commodities had "touched the skies," making everyday life increasingly difficult for consumers. Specific price increases for spices, pulses, and cooking oils were cited, with some commodities rising by as much as 25% in a month.

Onions saw an 82.3% price increase in three and a half months, according to Ramesh. The Congress questioned the Prime Minister's silence on inflation and invoked the BJP's "achche din" slogan, asking if the "achche din" had disappeared.
