JAMB lifts SIM, email change ban, gives candidates fresh directives

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rescinded its ban on SIM swapping and email address changes, permitting candidates who have lost access to their registered details to update them via a controlled procedure. This change went into effect on Monday, September 21, 2026.

According to JAMB's Director of Communications, Fabian Benjamin, the decision followed the implementation of enhanced identity and biometric verification processes, aimed at preventing fraud, impersonation, and unauthorized alterations to candidates' records.

However, the service is only applicable once per candidate and available at designated JAMB CBT, PTC/PRC Centers, as well as relevant state offices. Candidates must provide their new GSM number and/or email address, a scanned and ready-to-upload court affidavit, and log into their e-facility profile. They must also make payment for the service and undergo biometric verification at a designated center before the details can be altered.

Candidates are permitted to request changes to their GSM number, email address, or both. JAMB has emphasized that the SIM swap and email change service will only be accessible once. The Board strongly advises candidates to utilize this facility only for legitimate cases and to patronize designated JAMB CBT centers.

The revised policy aims to ensure that candidates who lose access to their registered credentials are not unduly disadvantaged.
