Iran and Trump exchange fresh warnings as Saudi-Huthi conflict escalates ahead of key UN gathering. Here’s what to know

As world leaders prepare for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, tensions are rising across the Middle East, particularly with fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Huthi rebels in Yemen. The situation has become a major concern, with both sides exchanging fresh warnings. The Huthis recently seized key territory, including a strategically important island in the Red Sea and coastal areas near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital maritime chokepoint.

Despite increased support from the US and Gulf officials, Saudi Arabia has been unable to halt the Huthi advance. There have been reports of Huthi attacks on Mecca, the Saudi capital, and claims of missile and drone strikes on sensitive sites in Riyadh and an Aramco oil facility in Yanbu.
