Infantino proposes consulting federations to reform Fifa

Fifa President Gianni Infantino has proposed a consultation with member federations and stakeholders to reform the world football governing body's decision-making processes, according to a letter seen by AFP. The 56-year-old Swiss, who replaced Sepp Blatter in 2016, suggested the Council establish a structured and time-limited consultation with confederations, member associations, and relevant stakeholders.

The consultation would focus on enhancing transparency, participation, and accountability in major strategic initiatives. Infantino emphasized that Fifa's democratic processes, independence, and sporting authority are not for sale. He also lamented that the commercial subsidiary proposal, which faced backlash from European football's governing body UEFA and other stakeholders, was released before the institutional process was completed.

Despite facing pressure and threats of boycotts, Infantino remains the only candidate for re-election as Fifa president in March 2023.
