I’m not changing after 47 Years – Queiroz fires back at critics

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has vehemently defended his football philosophy, asserting that he has no intention of altering his approach despite criticism of his conservative style. The Portuguese coach has been under scrutiny from certain quarters for his defensive tactics, with some calling for the Black Stars to embrace a more attacking style of play.

However, Queiroz maintains that his primary objective is to secure wins, rather than adhere to a specific style of play. He emphasizes that a coach's success is measured by their ability to achieve results, not by their preferred style. "The only style I know is winning. Name one coach who lost their job because of style. Coaches are judged by results and not style.

I am not changing that after 47 years," Queiroz stated firmly. He acknowledges the desire to have possession during the World Cup but clarifies that his team's focus is on fighting for the ball when it's lost. Queiroz believes that football is a game of differing opinions, and teams cannot always align in the same direction. However, he stresses that when playing for Ghana, they must always stand together.

Queiroz will now focus on Ghana's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, with the Black Stars facing Côte d'Ivoire in their opening fixture on Thursday. Five days later, they will return home to host The Gambia in Accra.
