iFixit Shares iPhone 18 Pro Teardown With Inside Look at New Features

iFixit has released a detailed teardown of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, offering a comprehensive look at the new features of these devices. The teardown reveals the battery capacities for the eSIM-only variants: the iPhone 18 Pro boasts a 4,288 mAh battery (up from 4,252 mAh in the previous generation), while the iPhone 18 Pro Max now comes equipped with a 5,567 mAh battery (a 9.4% increase from the iPhone 17 Pro Max).

The eSIM-only models are exclusively available in several countries including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait, while retaining a SIM card tray in all other markets.

One of the key highlights of the teardown is the introduction of a variable aperture system in both models. Furthermore, the new vapor chamber for cooling is more pronounced, enhancing the overall performance of the devices. The inside of the logic board has also undergone a significant change; NAND storage is now integrated into a dual-layer logic board, which iFixit notes could complicate future storage-related repairs.

Additionally, the screen's plastic frame has shown a propensity to crack or break away on three out of the four iPhone 18 Pro models tested, a new issue not encountered with earlier iterations. However, the report acknowledges that further testing is necessary to fully understand and address this new concern.
