"I thought people would leave": Hideo Kojima offers his account of Physint's switch from PlayStation to Xbox, as his studio insist they're in a "healthy, profitable state"

Hideo Kojima expressed confusion over why Sony's Physint title was on the list of cancelled projects by the company. The acclaimed game, which Kojima referred to as the biggest-selling title he could create, remained a mystery to the developer. Kojima's team was shocked when Sony announced it would stop funding Physint in mid-June.

The developer, now an independent studio, feared closure if the funds were not replenished. Despite the uncertainty, Kojima Productions sought a new partner, ultimately finding it in Xbox. Xbox was already producing Kojima's upcoming horror title OD, and the studio reassigned staff to work on OD while continuing development on Physint.

Sony, however, provided no explanation for cutting funding. Physint had reportedly missed deadlines and was on the verge of overspending, with Death Stranding and its sequel also failing to meet revenue expectations. Kojima Productions dismissed these claims as unverified and emphasized that the studio remains profitable. Kojima maintained that the studio's relationship with Sony remains strong, despite the decision to halt funding for Physint.

Kojima reassured staff and actors that the game is still in development, with 3D models of actors already in the works and games engines being tested.
