Grimaldi prende in consegna una nuova nave con tecnologie ecocompatibili

The Grimaldi group has received a new eco-friendly cargo ship, the Grande Egitto, delivered by China Merchants Heavy Industries Jiangsu. This marks the 14th ammonia-ready unit for the company, which could potentially be converted to use ammonia as a zero-emission fuel, once such fuel becomes widely available. The Grande Egitto and its sister ship, the Grande Pacifico, entered service within the last month, boasting the largest Pctc (tons of cargo per thousand nautical miles) of the Grimaldi fleet.

The Grimaldi group is preparing for the XXVII Euromed convention From land to sea, which will take place in Sardinia, Palau, from September 24-27. The convention focuses on promoting maritime transport and short sea shipping, with the company showcasing ongoing and planned industrial projects. The 220-meter and 38-meter Grande Egitto has a load capacity of 9,800 ceu (car equivalent units) and a cruising speed of 18 knots.

The ship is designed to carry electric and conventional fuel-powered vehicles, as well as vehicles running on compressed natural gas. Its numerous eco-friendly technologies claim to cut fuel consumption by 50% compared to previous generation car carriers. The ship's name signifies Egypt's strategic importance in maritime links, and the company's Emanuele Grimaldi says its addition to the fleet to the Asia-East Africa route responds to a dynamic and environmentally-conscious market.
