Greater Accra region accounts for 77% of total secured credit in half-year 2026 – BoG

As of 30th June 2026, the Bank of Ghana's Collateral Registry reports that the Greater Accra Region secured 77.8% of all secured credit in the second half of 2026, totaling GH¢24.5 billion. This was followed by the Ashanti Region with a 10.8% share, amounting to GH¢3.4 billion. The Western, Eastern, and Central Regions accounted for 3.6%, 1.0%, and 0.9% respectively.

Outside Ghana-based lenders also contributed 3.4% of the total secured credit, securing assets in the country valued at GH¢1.1 billion. The report highlights that eight regions registered more than 2,000 security interest registrations, with Ashanti leading the pack with 27,627 registrations, which constitute 30.0% of all registrations.

The Greater Accra Region followed with 21,736 registrations, accounting for 23.6%. The Central, Eastern, and Western Regions recorded 10,565 (11.5%), 8,170 (8.9%), and 7,869 (8.5%) registrations respectively. Only four regions saw registrations below 500, with the Oti Region recording the lowest at 153 registrations. The distribution of registered collaterals shows a 25.8% year-on-year decrease in total assets registered, down from 158,298 in the second quarter of 2025 to 117,428 in the second quarter of 2026.

Of the registered collaterals, 79.1% (92,878 assets) were movable assets, while 2.6% were immovable assets. The most frequently registered category of collateral was cash, with 80,673 registrations, making up 68.7% of all pledged collateral. Inventory/stock of goods followed closely with 10,015 registrations, equivalent to 8.5% of total collateral.

Company/Business Assets and Consumer/Household goods accounted for 9,247 (7.9%) and 4,619 (3.9%) registrations respectively.
