Godwin Attram replaces Desmond Ofei as Black Stars assistant coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the appointment of former Ghana midfielder Godwin Attram as the new assistant coach of the Black Stars, set to embark on their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Attram is replacing Desmond Ofei, who will now dedicate his full attention to leading the Ghana Under-23 side, the Black Meteors. The GFA emphasized that this move is part of a broader technical restructuring to prepare the senior national team for their qualifying campaign, which begins this month.

The GFA stated, "The Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to announce the appointment of former Ghana international Godwin Attram as Assistant Coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars." They highlighted Attram's dual background as both a player and coach, making him a valuable asset to the team. Previously, Attram played for PSV Eindhoven and Silkeborg IF, and has held managerial positions at Great Olympics and within Ghana’s national youth team, where his focus on player development and modern coaching techniques earned him accolades.

Desmond Ofei, who had been managing both the Black Stars and the Black Satellites concurrently, will now concentrate on guiding the U-23 team in preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games qualifying campaign. Ghana’s qualifying journey for the 2027 AFCON tournament begins with a challenging away match against Côte d'Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24, followed by a home fixture against The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 27, and concludes with a friendly against Morocco in Tangier on October 4.
