Giants call up Bo Davidson, activate Marcelo Mayer

Mesa, Arizona - February 28, 2026 - The San Francisco Giants have made an exciting roster move, calling up infielder Marcelo Mayer and outfielder Bo Davidson. Both players will immediately begin playing in the lineup. Mayer, activated from the 10-Day Injured List, will serve as the designated hitter, while Davidson, who was purchased from AAA Sacramento, will take up right field.

For Mayer, this marks his organizational debut. The 23-year old left-handed prospect, the fourth overall pick in the 2021 draft, joined the Giants during the trade deadline for lefty reliever Erik Miller and outfield prospect Carlos Gutierrez. Despite struggling in his first two stints in the Majors with the Boston Red Sox, Mayer remains a top-20 prospect, with strong defensive skills and potential.

He is expected to play second base before the season concludes. Davidson, on the other hand, had a remarkable year, rising from an undrafted free agent to a Major Leaguer. The 24-year old left-handed power hitter has showcased excellent defense, a strong bat, and great speed. He posted impressive numbers in both AA Richmond and AAA Sacramento, hitting an organization-leading 29 home runs in 125 games.

Since Davidson is protected from the Rule 5 Draft, the Giants decided to roster him and let him experience playing in the Majors before next year. However, the move comes with a cost as the Giants are replacing first baseman Bryce Eldridge and outfielder Jung Hoo Lee. Eldridge is placed on the 7-Day Concussion List, while Lee is sidelined with a groin injury, ending his season. This move leaves only Christian Koss and Landen Roupp from the Opening Day roster.
