Former NFL GM: Commanders Could Consider Moving on From Jayden Daniels

The Washington Commanders are evaluating the possibility of moving on from their third-year quarterback, Jayden Daniels, following two potential season-ending injuries to his left elbow. This comes after Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow in last season's Week 9 game and again in Week 14 when trying to make a tackle after an interception, leading to his season-ending injury.

Former Tennessee Titans executive vice president and general manager, Ran Carthon, spoke about the situation on NFL on CBS, suggesting the injuries could prompt the Commanders to consider a succession plan for Daniels. This could take the form of a talented quarterback emerging from the 2027 NFL Draft. Carthon emphasized that if the team suffers a less-than-stellar season following these back-to-back injuries, the reliability of Daniels as their QB1 may come into question, leading to increasingly complex questions about his continued role with the team.

Carthon also raised the possibility that head coach Dan Quinn might be on the hot seat this season, adding another layer of consideration for Washington when deciding their quarterback strategy. A new head coach might prioritize whether they want to coach a rookie quarterback or work with Daniels, who showed potential in his rookie season but has struggled in recent games due to concerns about his durability.
