Former deputy minister Datuk Yahya Lampong dies at 86

Kota Kinabalu — Former deputy rural development minister Datuk Yahya Lampong, who represented the Kota Belud constituency in the Malaysian Parliament, passed away at the age of 86 at KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, according to his son Masley Yahya. The cause of death remains undisclosed. Masley expressed his condolences on Facebook, requesting prayers for his father's soul, stating, "May Allah SWT forgive his sins, shower him with His mercy, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.

Aamiin. Please keep Papa in your doa." Yahya held the Kota Belud parliamentary seat from 1982 to 1986 as an independent candidate, securing the position in the 1982 General Election. Additionally, he served as the Tempasuk state assemblyman from 1985 to 1986 as a member of the United Sabah National Organisation (USNO). His political journey commenced in 1981 when he contested the Usukan state seat as a Berjaya party candidate.

In the 2013 General Election, Yahya contested the Papar parliamentary seat as a People's Justice Party (PKR) candidate.
