Kota Kinabalu, Sept 21 — Noted former Bongawan assemblyman Datuk Karim Bujang passed away at his residence in Kampung Sipanggil, Putatan, Sabah, on September 20, 2023 at the age of 73. His final rites were held in Kimanis, where a funeral service was conducted at the Imam Abdullah Mosque followed by burial at the Kampung Brunei Muslim Cemetery, Kimanis, around 5:30 pm.

Before his political career, Karim was a member of Usno, then Umno, and eventually became the Permanent Chairman of the Parti Warisan in Sabah before joining the Parti Gagasan Rakyat in 2024. The Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the former assemblyman, lauding him as a political leader who made significant contributions and provided valuable service to Sabah.

"May the family of the deceased be granted strength and patience in facing this loss, and let us pray together that Allah SWT showers His mercy upon his soul," expressed Hajiji in a Facebook post. Meanwhile, Kimanis Member of Parliament Datuk Mohamad Alamin described Karim as his 'political sifu' who had mentored him throughout his political career since he first got involved in politics in 2004.
