Flights disrupted at NYC-area airports due to equipment outage, FAA says

Flights at Newark Liberty International, John F. Kennedy International, and LaGuardia airports have been delayed due to an equipment outage, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). A ground stop was initially imposed around 10 a.m. on Monday and has since been extended to at least 2:45 p.m. Additionally, stops were ordered for JFK at 12:38 p.m. and LaGuardia at 12:43 p.m., both of which are expected to remain in effect until 2 p.m., according to the FAA.

The FAA has suspended flights into Philadelphia International, Teterboro, and Newark Liberty International airports due to issues with frequencies at Philadelphia TRACON. TRACON, which stands for Terminal Radar Approach Control, is an air traffic control facility that utilizes radar and radios to guide planes as they approach and depart from airports.

The primary circuit in Philadelphia TRACON failed, with the backup line also experiencing a break. The repair of the fiber break is estimated to take around 13 hours and is reportedly extensive, according to FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford.

Bedford stated that the cut in the fiber line is located between New Brunswick and Newark. A new circuit is currently being installed to resolve the issue. Travelers are advised to consult their respective airlines for up-to-date information regarding their specific flights.
