Fastly launches AI security and control tools for enterprises

San Francisco - Fastly, Inc., a Nasdaq-listed company (NASDAQ:FSLY), announced on Monday three new tools designed to help businesses manage their AI systems more effectively. The new additions to Fastly's "Fastly for AI" portfolio are AI Runtime Control, AI Firewall, and enhanced API Security features. These tools aim to provide companies with better visibility and control over their AI operations.

AI Runtime Control allows organizations to govern access to AI models by routing all calls through a single endpoint, regardless of whether they are public or self-hosted. This tool offers visibility into token spend, rate limiting, budget controls, and failover capabilities.

AI Firewall is designed to evaluate prompts in real-time to prevent potential attacks such as prompt injection attempts. Meanwhile, the enhanced API Security feature ensures that API contracts are upheld by either observing or blocking non-conforming requests.

According to Fastly, machine-generated traffic across their network surpassed 50% in July and August 2026, with AI traffic growing 6.5 times faster than human traffic from January through May 2026. This is supported by McKinsey research which indicates that 93% of organizations are exceeding their AI budgets.

Kelly Shortridge, Fastly's Chief Product Officer, emphasized the need for enterprises to adopt AI coding agents and implement AI features without losing efficiency or compromising business resilience. He stated that enterprises require control in production, at runtime, without any delay, friction, or disruption.

Fastly's network operates at a capacity of 622 Tbps globally, handling over five trillion requests daily as of March 31, 2026. The three new capabilities are now available and integrate seamlessly with existing Fastly platform features like Bot Management, DDoS Protection, and API Discovery.
