E-hailing, p-hailing demand expected to surge up to 300pct during F1

KUALA LUMPUR: Demand for e-hailing and p-hailing services is expected to skyrocket by 200-300 percent during the Formula 1 (F1) Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit, which will take place from October 2-4, according to Pertubuhan Lestari Ekonomi Aktivis Digital Malaysia (Lead Malaysia). The organization bases this projection on past demand patterns observed during major international events.

The surge in demand is anticipated to be most pronounced around the Sepang, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Putrajaya areas, presenting lucrative income opportunities for thousands of gig drivers and riders.

Lead Malaysia further predicts that fare increases may be implemented at specific times and locations when demand outstrips driver availability, owing to the influx of F1 fans worldwide. Additionally, the organization expresses confidence that many drivers hailing from neighboring states will travel to the Klang Valley and Sepang to capitalize on the earning opportunities presented by the event.

The surge in visitor numbers is also expected to boost demand for food and parcel delivery services among delivery riders in key areas. Lead Malaysia cautions e-hailing and p-hailing drivers to remember that their actions represent the nation during race week, as every trip is not merely a booking but an opportunity to showcase Malaysia to the world.
