Dubai declares 10 days of mourning for ruler's brother Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Dubai has entered a period of 10 days of official mourning after the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security. He was also the younger brother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE's Vice President and Prime Minister. Flags across Dubai were lowered to half-mast following the announcement made by the Court of Sheikh Mohammed on Monday, September 21.

Sheikh Mohammed expressed his condolences for his brother's family and requested prayers for their solace. The emirate's senior leadership, including Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan, also mourned Sheikh Ahmed, asking for mercy and strength for the family. Sheikh Ahmed, 76, had a long-standing role in Dubai's public security establishment, serving as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security, as well as holding leadership positions within Al Wasl Club and its subsidiary companies.

He was born in 1950, the youngest son of the former Ruler of Dubai, and passed away on September 21.
