Don’t fear public scrutiny” – Asiedu Nketiah to Gov’t

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the government to embrace public scrutiny, transparency, and accountability in its responsibilities. At the 4th Bono Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, Nketiah emphasized the importance of public officials being ready to respond to legitimate inquiries about their decisions, policies, and utilization of public resources.

He emphasized that the public and the media should scrutinize the government's policies, programs, expenditures, and performance as an integral aspect of democratic governance.

Nketiah, speaking as the National Chairman of the ruling NDC, urged ministers to answer legitimate questions and stressed that the promises made to Ghanaians should be compared to the results delivered. According to him, accountability should not be perceived as an attack on the government but as a crucial element of running a democracy. "That is part of governing in a democracy and a government that intends to perform should have no difficulty with it at all," he added.

Nketiah also called on the public to receive accurate information when government policies and programs yield positive outcomes. He urged journalists to focus on facts and report fairly, irrespective of which political party might benefit from the coverage. "Journalism serves the citizens best when the facts are established properly and reported without regard to which political party finds them convenient," he stated.
