Did someone just win a ‘H1’ plate with a RM10.7m bid? RTD keeps everyone guessing

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — An online bid of RM10.7 million for the prestigious H1 vehicle registration number has sparked curiosity among Malaysians, despite the Road Transport Department (RTD) yet to verify the figure. Rumors of multiple bids surfaced yesterday, ranging from RM10.7 million to RM555,777, according to Berita Harian.

The bidding period for the H series, encompassing H1 to H9999, concluded yesterday, with the official outcome anticipated today. Bidders will receive notifications via email and their JPJeBid accounts within 24 hours after the bidding concludes, contingent upon bank transaction validation. H1 to H9999 represents the final single-letter prefix series to be auctioned by RTD and the government, with the H symbolizing "harmony."

The inaugural letter H series launch took place on September 14, Malaysia Day. RTD Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli had previously expressed that the "H" encapsulates harmony and urged the public to bid for the numbers. Prior to the H series, the highest bid recorded was RM1.75 million for the FFF 1 plate, secured by Malaysia's King Sultan Ibrahim in June 2024, marking the most substantial payment for a Malaysian vehicle registration number.

A screenshot on Facebook purportedly shows an online bid for the 'H1' plate at RM10.777 million, potentially shattering the existing record for the highest JPJ number plate bid in Malaysia. If RTD verifies the H1 result at RM10.777 million, it would exceed six times the amount paid in 2024. The JPJeBid system, RTD's online auction platform for vehicle registration numbers, does not impose a maximum bid limit, permitting bidders to tender substantial sums for registration numbers deemed exclusive or personally significant.

Nevertheless, the ultimate winning bid will be validated by the official JPJeBid result, implying that figures disclosed during the bidding process or disseminated on social media may not align with the final price.
